»Hitler’s »Eintopfsonntag«. A Myth« The Third Reich introduced the practice of serving a Sunday stew termed »Eintopfsonntag« as a propaganda campaign. In winter, people were required to forego the traditional Sunday roast in favor of a modest stew (Eintopf). The money saved was to be donated to the Winter Relief Agency (Winterhilfe). To this day, the »Eintopfsonntag« is widely thought to have been successful, as demonstrated in propaganda photos of people enjoying the Sunday gatherings. This study reveals new and unexpected insights, which show that the campaign’s purported success was in fact a myth.
