In the present book, the whole malacological fauna of the Cape Verde Archipelago is reviewed, beginning with the biogeographical characters of the archipelago in comparison with other nearby areas that constitute Macaronesia. A list is presented of all the taxa recorded in the literature from the area. Most of the species are illustrated in color or SEM photographs, some of them with the living animal. Altogether 816 species and subspecies of molluscs are recorded for the Cape Verde Archipelago - four of them Aplacophora, 12 are Polyplacophora, and 800 are Gastropoda. From this last group, 10 species may be considered freshwater molluscs, 41 are terrestrial, and 749 are marine.
