Curare was founded in 1978 by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Ethnologie und Medizin (until 2018 Arbeitsgemeinschaft Ethnomedizin). It provides an international and interdisciplinary forum for the scientific discussion of topics in medical anthropology, encompassing all aspects of health, disease, medicine and healing, past and present, in different parts of the world. Curare publishes articles in English and is the only journal of medical anthropology also in German. The current issue focuses on computers and medicine, including telemedicine.
