Marie-Claude Deffarge (1924–1984) and Gordian Troeller (1917–2003) collaborated as freelance journalists from the 1950s on, reporting subjectively and controversially from all over the world. This first comprehensive book on their work celebrates their outstanding features and film work that reveal the evolution of 20th-century critical photojournalism and has lost nothing of its relevance: Deffarge & Troeller investigated the roots of political conflicts that continue to shape world events to this day. More than 1000 images—photos, entire reportages and film previews, book maquettes, contact sheets, film stills and scripts, as well as other documents—are supplemented by texts that contextualize Deffarge & Troeller’s core topics, their approach, and the reception of their work.
